As children are developing their sense of identity, they explore different aspects of it (physical, social, emotional, spiritual, cognitive), through their play and their relationships. In early childhood settings children develop a sense of identity and belonging when they feel accepted, develop attachments and trust those that care for them. When children feel safe, secure and supported they grow in confidence to explore and learn (from Aussie Childcare Network). Resources that support educators to actively promote a child's sense of identity incorporate learning about family, self and emotions into their program. We have included these toys and resources for you below.
